I guess there was no mention of the #67 taking its class win at Laguna Seca this weekend because $kaycog has not recovered yet.

I have to say that even though I hate that they split the classes and ran each group for 2 hours, there was some really exciting racing. I just wish they would get back to the 6 hour format and throw everyone back together. The tv coverage made it look like there was not much traffic to deal with. Maybe the Mazda could have reclaimed the lead if the format was more like last year. Oh well, hopefully Mazda keeps that pace for the rest of the season and this is a preview of what Ford’s Le Mans performance will be like. The opening was great seeing the GTs and the 488s duke it out, it is great seeing such a historic rivalry return!

The 67 ran about 51 laps on its last fuel run which is quite far

Waiting for the youtube upload so I can watch. Cool to see the ford gt claim a win.

Based on the silverstone race coverage it sounds like the WEC Ford GTs are sandbagging a bit to avoid getting hit with a BOP adjustment before le mans. When one of the drivers was asked about the GTs being 1-2 seconds off the pace towards the end of the race he replied rather cheekly with “it’s not a problem, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.”. Sounds like they are in the same place as porsche was in 2013 with the new 991 being fast but sandbagging to not get hit in the adjustment after spa.

I was there working with the Ford Perfomance team. Have to admit I was a bit sad that this victory got no mention on the FP.

Really? They were looking to go 1-2 as the 66 was leading for a good part of the race but the 66 didn’t stretch its fuel as well so they had to get a splash in the last few laps which dropped them back.

The fact that I wasn’t there with you proves we live in a cruel and indifferent universe.

That would have been awesome if they finished 1-2, but I’m happy with the results. Thanks!

I was there for it, very cool that they won. They were fast all weekend. I miss the old 6-hour format too, and the late race on Sunday is just a bad idea. I left after the first race, as did most everyone else. The idea was to have less cautions, I suppose, but they still had a few.

Not on the FP, not on BlackFlag, really sad seeing as how many people on both sites know the significance of this return. I wish I got to go this year because like the original GT40 program, I doubt this is going to be as long lived as the Corvette program and I would love to see this car in person. That being said, watching it on TV wasn’t terrible. I’m sure I would have missed a lot of the action too if I was doing what I normally do, hike up and down the hill taking pictures. Hopefully the GT is still in the series next year!

Meanwhile, Corvette Racing is leading GTLM points and going into LeMans looking for a second triple crown... This June will be interesting.

A late Saturday Race might be a nice alternative but I felt it was worth running late on Sunday to see them drive through dusk into the night. The in-car shots of them going into the sunset were always astonishing. They still have issues with cautions because all the runoffs are car traps. The DPs that got together at 10 had no chance of getting out under their own power but that is the trade off with also being a moto gp track but moto gp doesn’t like so much kitty litter any more. They would have less of a problem if they paved more of the runoff, then they could put all classes together again.

If they can manage that economy in June, they will be a real threat in GT Pro.

And their renewed Porsche rivalry is really heating up. The upcoming races at the Glen and Mosport are not the most forgiving tracks for the argy-bargy racing. The rest of the season is looking to be exciting!

hasn’t been 6 hours since grand am and alms merged.

Definitely took the endurance aspect out of it, but I think 2 races is better than all the classes for 2.5 hours. I use to see 8.5 hours of racing a year there grand+alms but then boom they shortened the piss out of it.

The first year I attended was 2012 which was the last year of racing into the dark. It was my favorite time at Laguna Seca because you got a good abridged endurance experience. The program art was very appropriate for that year too.
